education Plan
Education is a fundamental human right. Yet for decades, our education system has been systematically plundered and sold for parts. Our teachers are underpaid and our students are under-resourced. Our higher education system has been transformed into a debt market while our trade schools remain vulnerable to for-profit scams. We must return the power back to parents, students, and educators and away from exploitative for-profit systems.
As your Congresswoman, I will:
- Work to allow college students from households with less than $140k in combined income to attend college tuition-free to eliminate the impossible burden of student loan debt.
- Advocate for the forgiveness of all current student loan debt, so people are no longer financially punished for merely seeking an education.
- Support measures to end the school-to-prison-and-deportation pipeline, end school pushout policies that have harmed particularly Black and other children of color, and to achieve police-free schools.
- Oppose new federal funding to private charter schools and oppose the expansion of their use.
- Support the rights of teachers to bargain “for the common good” in their collective bargaining agreements.
- Support the sustainable Community Schools model: publicly funded schools that serve as both an educational hub and a center for community health, social services, and programming.
- Support measures to increase funding to public schools that would create jobs, deliver racial equity, improve health outcomes, slash carbon emissions, and improve school resilience to extreme weather.
