As a Black woman and a lawyer, I know that our criminal justice system is broken. Too often, the systems we have in place hurt Black and brown people instead of keeping our communities safe. As your congresswoman, I will work to abolish ICE, end the death penalty, and support moving funds away from law enforcement and towards social workers, public mental health professionals, anti-violence programs, trauma centers, addiction treatment, and community support networks.
The War on Drugs and drug criminalization have not made our communities safer. We deserve a holistic approach to drug use in America — where the needs of all people including those with addictions are addressed and where we invest in harm reduction. As your congresswoman, I will continue the work I've done in the drug policy reform space by moving our country away from punishment and towards legalization, decriminalization, and treatment.
Our education system is unequal and unfair. We must reinvest in our public school system and reestablish a good education as a fundamental human right. As your congresswoman, I will fight to eliminate student debt, push for free public college for all, and end the plundering of our public schools.
As of 2020, Essex county received a D grade with 7 orange days and 1 red day; Hudson County received an F grade with 12 D grade days and 2 red days. Neither in 2018 nor in 2020 was there a monitor collecting data in Union County, another critical part of the district. If I am elected as your Congresswoman, I will fight to ensure that Congress passes and institutes all the facets of Green New Deal legislation, including green union jobs and green transportation infrastructure.
The people in our district deserve to have their human rights respected. Denying residents of New Jersey’s 10th Congressional District their right to free healthcare is simply unconscionable and frankly unacceptable. If given the pleasure to serve as your Congresswoman, I will guarantee that every resident in our district will be the beneficiaries of Medicare For All.
While Black and Brown residents in our district continue to lose their homes, their wealth, their legacies, and their neighborhoods, developers continue to partner with establishment politicians to enrich themselves by pricing us out of our own neighborhoods. If I am elected as your Congresswoman, I will work to guarantee that Congress passes the types of laws and regulations that will restore home ownership, secure affordable housing, and bring justice to families in our district that have been taken advantage of by greedy politicians, banks, and developers.
While the diversity of our immigrant populations ranging from India to the Caribbean, to South America is what makes our district rich with culture, we can do so much better when serving our neighbors, family, and friends who are immigrants. As your Congresswoman I will continue to fight for the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of our immigrant community.
In order to fully maximize the efficiency and economic potential of our district’s infrastructure, we need to guarantee that all parts of our transportation and infrastructure are operating to their best ability while creating jobs and keeping our environment clean and safe. If I’m elected as your Congresswoman, I will guarantee that our district receives the support it needs to create and maintain efficient and green infrastructure while boosting our economy in the process.
Whether navigating the complexities of a global economy or fighting to end genocide, our role as a country should have a major concentration on peace, diplomacy, and extensive demilitarization. As your Congresswoman, I will take these lessons that I’ve internalized during my travels and use them to be a true champion of diplomacy and fierce defender of international human rights.
Although New Jersey has some of the strongest protections against LGBTQ+ discrimination in the country, we can always aim to do better and push to make this a reality for the entirety of the United States. As your Congresswoman I will ensure that each and every one of us can live full lives free from discrimination, physical, and psychological violence of all kinds
Our district is one of the most diverse in the state and it’s this diversity that makes our district rich and abundant. This diversity alone, however, does not protect residents living in the 10th District from the ills of racism and white supremacist violence. If I am elected as your Congresswoman, I will fully commit to eradicating white supremacy and bringing true justice to our District, our State, and our Country.
New Jersey has the most corrupt ballot design in the entire country. Reinforced by dishonest Tammany Hall style politics--where patronage and cronyism decide the fate of our communities--New Jersey’s corrupt political machine is indicative of a larger problem: the undermining of good democracy nationwide. If I’m elected as your Congresswoman, I pledge to be a resounding patron of democracy and democratic values.
As a lifelong resident of the 10th Congressional District, I understand how critical it is for us to lessen the gross economic burden that’s been unfairly placed on all of us. If you elect me as your Congresswoman I will rectify these economic woes and help bring prosperity to the people of our district.
